Slavery is a very sensitive topic of discussion in our society. The public school system fails to adequately address the impact and effects of this historical atrocity. The curriculum and instructional materials used to teach children about slavery often distort or omit pertinent facts about the subject. Textbooks published by historical revisionists use misnomers such as “workers” and “immigrants” to refer to enslaved African people. Also, mainstream movies fail to depict the gamut of the institution of slavery.
